Pulp
novels and similar
Lurid paperbacks from a time now gone, many of these are now quite collectable.
Whilst not all of these books are, strictly speaking, ‘pulp’ as
the term is generally understood, they are all close enough in either appearance
or subject matter to qualify – to my mind, at least. Usual rules apply
regarding condition, bulk buys etc check with me if in any doubt. Add 40p per
book for UK postage if ordering 5 or less, or 30p per book if ordering more
than 5.
A PARTY TO MURDER Lionel White (whodunit that plays interestingly with point
of view and perspective – RASHOMON-inspired pulp?!) £1.75
DAWN OF THE MUTANTS (weird antiquated sci-fi) £1.50
DEAD WOMAN OF THE YEAR Hugh Pentecost (more gumshoe stuff from an author with
a cool name. Covers a bit worn and creased) £1.50
DEATH IS MY SHADOW Edward S. Aarons (classic noir trash, some ink on back cover
and covers a little worn) £1.75
DEATH TURNS THE TABLES / IN SPITE OF THUNDER / DEMONIACS (three page-turners
by once-popular ‘tec writer John Dickson Carr. Not bad condition for their
age, ie from the early 60s). Buy all 3 for £4.25
DRACULA AND THE VIRGINS OF THE UNDEAD Etienne Aubin (more 70s vamp trash) £1.50
EAT THEM ALIVE / FLESHBAIT (two books in one volume, condition not great. Couldn’t
care less about FLESHBAIT, but EATEN ALIVE is the immortal are-you-serious /
someone-actually-went-to-the-trouble-of-publishing-this-shit classic by Pierce
Nace and from (who else?) NEL in the 70s – a book SO bad in EVERY possible
regard that your brain might just pack its bags and leave. Has something of
a cult following these days. Incredible…) £4.50
GRIP OF FEAR Vern Hansen (short stories from 1964) £1.50
HAND OF DRACULA / DRACULA’S BROTHER / THE WITCHING OF DRACULA (three books
in a series of God-knows-how-many by Robert Lory. More early 70s vamp trash
published by (you guessed it) NEL. The first is slightly worn, the other 2 are
in pretty good nick) all 3 for £5
HEADED FOR A HEARSE Jonathan Latimer (can the ‘tec save him from death
row in six days? Good nick) £1.75
HIGH WINDOW Raymond Chandler (say no more. Okay condition) £1.50
the renowned JHC) £1.50
ISLAND OF FU MANCHU Sax Rohmer (1968 – good old pre-PC yellow peril!)
£1.50
LET SLEEPING GIRLS LIE James Mayo (attempt to start a new Bond series which,
we must assume, did not quite work out…) £1.50
LIVING DEATH Nick Carter (likewise, though far closer to The Final Programme
in terms of bonkers-ness… not good condition) 95p
LYDIA E. V. Cunningham (a PI and a dangerous woman… some pages loose)
£1
LYNCH TOWN W. B. Murphy (nifty deep South racism saga, not unlike In The Heat
of the Night – good condition too, though’ some writing on front
cover in felt tip) £1.75
NIGHT OF THE WARLOCK Raymond Giles (exploitative witchcraft novel from a time
when you couldn’t move for them, covers won and a little creased) £1.25
PSYCHO Phillips Moore (1966) £1.50
THE RAPER Jack McCready (classic pulp, great cover and premise, slightly snapped
spine, faint price print on cover, slight back cover crease, otherwise good
nick) £4.50
STORMHAVEN Frank G. Slaughter (torrid, trashy-looking western pulp, bit tatty)
£1.50
TERROR Robert Bloch (not great condition but good cover) £1.25
THEN CAME BRONSON William Johnston (Hell’s Angels thing from NEL, covers
not great) £1.25
VAMPIRELLA 1 – BLOODSTALK / VAMPIRELLA 2 – ON ALIEN WINGS / VAMPIRELLA
3 – DEADWALK (the above three books by Ron Goulart are novels from the
very early 1970s based on a film (Hammer, I believe) that never came to be –
shame, since these are cool-looking trash epics about an alien vampire babe.
Slight tearing and creasing, otherwise vgc. Rare and collectable) £8.50
each or all 3 for £23.50
