Books
– Novelisations
Before the advent of home video, even the scuzziest of films had a tie-in novelisation,
since this was the only way in which the audience could ‘take the film
home’ with them; these books barely exist in any real sense today (except
for the biggest budget movies) and are now quite collectable. There are, once
again, far too many of these for me to detail individual cases (condition, imprint,
year, etc) so ask about specific books. A low price may be indicative of a below-average
condition book, but this will not necessarily be so (likewise, a high price
may indicate rarity or desirability rather than mint condition). Discounts may
well be given for bulk buys. Please add 50p for UK postage per book (rest of
the world by arrangement). Please note that some of these books were novels
before they were films, but not many.

DEAD AND BURIED Chelsea Quinn Yarboro (some creasing on

PRINCE OR CLOWN Maurice Dekobra / A GENTLEMAN OF PARIS Roy Horniman (these two
hardbacks are on ‘The Reader’s Library Film Edition’, from
– at a guess – sometime in the 1930s or 40s. They are illustrated
with stills from the film and represent two of the earliest novelisations. However,
the dustjackets are somewhat damaged, hence the prices) £3.25 each or
£6 the pair
RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD John Russo (another odd situation. I have two copies
of this book. Both have the same title and are written by the same man –
but they are two different novels. One was written in 1979 just before the release
of ‘Dawn Of The Dead’ and the other is the expected novelisation
of Russo’s 1985 movie. What gives?) £5 each or £8 the pair
VIDEODROME Jack Martin (aka Dennis Etchison – rare and sought-after paperback
based on Cronenberg’s unique masterpiece. As new) £4
